Singkawang ceramics in great demand by
tourists local and out of town, and even from abroad. Because ceramic
Singkawang have characteristics, where the manufacturing process is still using
the traditional method and the burn process that uses a furnace dragon, because
of its elongated shape. Furnace dragon there and the only one in western
Borneo, and even Indonesia.
There are four processes in the manufacture
of ceramics Singkawang :
First the preparation materials. The basic
ingredients of ceramics Singkawang are clay wich can be find in around the
site. and then clay soaked in water and mixed with kaolin soil. then the clay
cleaned thoroughly after soaking process is completed, the clay removed from
the soaking tub and mixed so softly and allowed for 3-5 days.
next the clay shaped and made the ceramic
there example shape jars, or pots. Once shaped, then leave again for 3-5 days.
Then, jars / pots that have been in decor.
There are several types of decorations like ornaments or decorations jars
dragons, lotus flowers, and flowers mehwa. Once completed in decor, then kermik
dried in special drying for about 2-3 weeks. Ceramics that have been dry
cleaned and colored.
Lastly, ceramics and then burned in a
special furnace called dragon furnace for 24 hours. usually begins in the
afternoon. After the burning process, it will be left for 1 to 3 days to cool,
then the ceramics ready to marketed.
